Q & A WITH THE BRIDE
Kate, 23, Stay-at-home Mummy & Scott, 25, Underground Miner (Electrician)
"We chose to hold both our wedding ceremony and reception in beautiful, sunny, Fiji. We chose The Naviti Resort as our spot of choice. Scott and I travel to Fiji once a year and this is where we stay. It holds a very special place in our hearts. Our ceremony was held in the beautiful gardens in the grounds of The Naviti Resort."
"We wanted our wedding to be relaxed and easy, as that’s what Fiji is all about! Beautiful flowing dresses for the girls, nice and relaxed attire for the boys. Purple played a big part of our day, with a little bit of Fiji thrown in with our beautiful bouquets and DIY throughout!"
The Wedding dress
"My wedding dress was The Clementine gown from Karen Willis Holmes. A beautiful v-neck gown with gorgeous silky tulle and diamonte motif under bust. The skirt fell to the ground and was nice and light – perfect for the Fiji humidity! I also wore a beautiful Karen Willis Holmes hairpiece, and earrings. Shoes were Jimmy Choo!"
"My bridesmaids wore 5 different gowns, in 5 different shades of purple. Daniella (Matron of Honour) wore the v-neck Lela gown in Ink and was also 25weeks pregnant in it! Emily wore the strapless Stella gown in Plum. Kaise wore the halter Briana gown in Smashing and was 12weeks pregnant in it! Kelsi wore the one-shoulder Millie gown in Aubergine. Rachel (Groomsmaid) wore the bateau Mel gown in Violet. They wore rose-gold stud earrings and bracelets from Mimco."
"I decided to do our invitations, along with the rest of our wedding stationary, myself. I incorporated our use of different shades of purple by using watercolours throughout our stationary. As there was a bit of information that we needed to communicate, I bundled all the pieces together and wrapped them in twine, complete with a tag."
"Our flowers were the beautiful Fijian gingers. My bridesmaids bouquets saw a mixture of pink and red gingers, whilst my bouquet saw solely red gingers. Pink and red gingers were used throughout the ceremony set-up and the reception."
"Our ceremony was probably the perfect length – we didn’t want our guests out in the Fijian heat for too long. We were sung down the aisle by The Naviti Resort’s four-man acoustic band, The Serenaders. Their voices were absolutely heavenly. We were married by a Fijian celebrant. My father walked me down the aisle, however I was also escorted down the aisle and to the ceremony by two Fijian warriors. These two men were two staff members from the resort that we have become close with over the years, we specifically asked them to join us on our day. Scott and I also read each other personalised vows. We said ‘I do’ under a bamboo arch adorned with flowers and greenery, standing in a heart on the ground, shaped from ginger petals."
"Our reception was in a marquee, set up by the resort, next to the beach. We were entertained all night by a Fijian band, Rosiloa, who did an amazing job in getting absolutely everyone up to dance. My two sisters, Kylie and Marni, were our MC’s for the night, giving the reception an extra personal touch. I had a print of the Fiji Island group with our names and wedding date printed amongst it for guests to sign their name, that I would later frame at home. Our first dance was to Train’s ‘Marry Me’."
"Pink and red ginger flowers adorned the tables, joined by some greenery. Behind our ‘guest book’ table I had some Polaroid style photos printed and pegged in many rows, of Scott, myself and our son Kai. On every table, I made some glittered candle holders in various shades of purple and pink, even a touch of red! We had the table numbers placed on mini wooden easels, which were also watercoloured. The seating chart and name places were also watercoloured. For each child that attended the wedding, they also had their own little pack that contained an activity booklet that I created myself, some crayons, bubbles and some lollies!"
"Our favours were two different flavoured macaroons, provided by Taste Fiji."
"Our wedding cake was simple – two tiers covered in frosting with pink and red gingers sitting on top."
